KiteFest 2008 was a success!
Thanks to all the volunteers and participants, Kitefest 2008 was a great success!  We had wind almost every day of the event and had somewhere between 30 and 50 participants come out to learn to kite, hone their skills or just thrash around in the water.  Special thanks to everyone who was selfless with their time and equipment and especially to Tom Fredericks who tirelessly taught and loaned equipment the whole weekend.
We had participants from around Alaska and even as far away as Israel. Many first timers learned to kite and I think we planted the seed for many of them who will be out there ripping with the rest of us next year for the 2009 KiteFest.
We would like to get ideas from everyone on how the event could be more fun, safer etc. next year. If you have any ideas, please email them to me.
Atlas
A new feature to this site is the Atlas, set up by our bro over at The Wind Map. This Google Earth enabled feature allows us to catalog all the places for kitesurfing in Alaska. Please take the time to update this feature if you run across a spot that is woth mentioning and that other kiters may want to check out. I have been able to travel alot this year and have added a number of spots already. Since i havnt rode at 20-mile near Anchorage, i do need someone to update the info in that area.
